Well it began as a society in 1823, and is still going strong and has had varied people speak and debate there, in two forms; competitive and chamber.

My comment about it being the greatest is clearly subjective, but this is hardly the main point of my post. It's widely referred to as such. Furthermore the Union is the current holder of the European Universities Debating Championships, winning the title in Berlin in 2006.

Sorry, but they do not select people to go to Oxford on the basis of their ability to debate. The Oxford Union is not the greatest debating society there is. You have provided no evidence whatsoever to support your contention.

sadly i jst catched the end of that programme, where Mark was in Columbia...I have fizzy drinks anyway but things but getting a glimpse into the reality of their practices makes you feel sooo sad. and they are able to get away wid, as the Columbian councillor said, they should have the same practice they do in one country in every country the operate it, which is completely right.
